What Is Trichology?

Trichology is the para-medical (non physician) study of hair health and scalp conditions as it relates to science. Trichology may include the study of diseases, assessments of the causes, and the proper treatment method.

What Is A Trichologist?

A trichologist is a para-medical professional that specializes in treating hair loss and scalp conditions in a holistic manner. Holistic is a term that describes the treatment of the whole person, or taking into consideration a person’s mental and medical background.

Based on a client’s health history, a trichologist is certified to give nutritional advice, recommend lifestyle changes, and suggest proper restoration treatment methods to improve the health of the hair and scalp.

What Is The Difference Between A Trichologist And A Dermatologist?

A dermatologist is a medical professional who specializes in the health of skin. A trichologist focuses on the hair, typically taking a holistic rather than a medical approach in regards to treatment and offering nutritional advice.

Trichologists, in a sense, are seen as the first line of defense when dealing with hair and scalp issues. In many cases trichologists and dermatologists compliment one another when assessing severe hair and skin cases, and may work very well alongside one another.

What Happens During an Evaluation with my Trichologist?

During all evaluations, our clients will have a personal meeting with a Trichologist. Beforehand you'll be asked to complete a brief questionnaire in order to become familiar with health history. We focus on factors such as medical history, eating habits, nutrition intake, a possible hormonal imbalance, stress levels, and sometimes results from a blood test done by a physician.

This information is essential to properly determine which treatment and nutritional method will be best for each client. During each evaluation, we’ll be happy to answer any questions that you may have and give helpful holistic recommendations that will benefit your overall lifestyle.
